Peggy Ungerboeck

Margaret Mary “Peggy” Ungerboeck

Margaret Mary “Peggy” Ungerboeck (née Zielinski) died peacefully in her home on June 9, 2025, at the age of 81.

Peggy, who founded The Face & The Body Day Spa, was a consummate entrepreneur, building her small company, which began on Clayton Road, into a multi-million-dollar endeavor with three locations: Brentwood, Chesterfield, and O’Fallon, Missouri. She literally founded the spa industry in St. Louis. Throughout her years at the helm, she offered stable employment to hundreds of people—including hardworking immigrants—while also giving back to the community through her volunteer work with Dress For Success and the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Peggy was an eager student of life, always exploring ways to live healthier, tending to her abundant garden, enjoying frequent travel, and learning to ballroom dance competitively. She doted on her many cats, her siblings and their spouses, her niece and nephew, and her stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Her generosity knew no bounds. She adored her family and a good batch of heavenly hash from Lake Forest Confections.

Peggy is predeceased by her mother, Mary Margaret Foley Zielinski, and three husbands: Maury Kitsis, Robert “Mitch” Mitchusson, and Dieter Ungerboeck. She is survived by her siblings, Joann (Cloyd) Hardin and Ray (Judy) Zielinski, her companion Kent McNeil, her nephew Robert Davis, her niece Amy (Michael) Zlatic, and her stepchildren Marc (Cathy) Kitsis, Keith (Gail) Kitsis, and Alex Kitsis. She also leaves her beloved Ungerboeck family: Krister (Tracie), Justin (Kara), Ryan (Maggie), and Daren (Angie). She is fondly remembered by her great-nephew and great-nieces, Christopher, Alexandra, and Zoe, and her step-grandchildren, Keith, Lindsey, Zach, Justin, Sydney, Max, Kaitlyn, Max, Joe, Xander, Catherine, Aidan, Addie, Theory, Miley, and Brayden.

In Peggy’s memory, please consider making a donation to Five Acres Animal Shelter, planting some bright, gorgeous flowers in your yard, or doing something bold today.

I am eternally grateful to Peggy for taking a chance on me. She hired me right out of school in 1986 at her first location on Clayton road. The spa and aesthetic industry was non-existent back then. The place was tiny with four or five treatment rooms divided by curtains. Her mother Mary was our receptionist. Peggy herself was still providing services and training us all. We eventually expanded and moved to Forsyth where the business continued to grow. I eventually clipped my wings and left in 1993 and went on to have a successful career. Many thanks to Peggy and the foundation I built on. 2 years ago I started working at the Brentwood location, ironic that I made a full circle and will be finishing out where my Roots began. Peggy was a powerhouse and the pioneer of our industry what a legacy!
