Douglas Edward McConnell

In Loving Memory of Douglas Edward McConnell
October 15, 1963 – August 19, 2025

Born on October 15, 1963, to Joyce (née Weiner) and William Edward McConnell, Doug lived a life rich in connection and purpose. He met the love of his life, Christine (née Hofer) McConnell, at a young age, and together they built a beautiful life over 45 years—36 of them as husband and wife. Their love story is the kind that others admire: unwavering, joyful, and the deepest amount of love any two could share. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his father-in-law Carl Hofer and mother-in-law Lois (née Allender) Hofer. Doug was deeply loved by his in-laws and the love was mutual.

Doug was the proudest father of two children, Alex (Tosha Yates) and Paige (Nathan Eloja), who were the center of his universe. His love for his family echoed in every glance, every embrace, and every shared silence that spoke volumes. Doug was the most present father who attended any and all events. Always wanting to be involved. He was their biggest cheerleader. He was also a beloved brother to Mike McConnell (Deb), Michelle Davis (John), Sheryl Kalesh (Terry), and Carmen Rose (Kurt), sisters- and brothers-in-law: Carol Hofer (Kevin Bradshaw), Carl Hofer Jr., Chris Hofer, and Cathy Maples (Jim), each of whom he shared a special bond with; a treasured step son to Brenda McConnell, an uncle, great-uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend to many.

Doug’s love extended to his fur babies, especially Halle, his best friend, and Teddy, his newly adopted companion. He even bought a BMW with a sidecar just so Halle could enjoy rides with him around the lake—a reflection of his boundless affection and love for animals. Professionally, Doug dedicated 34 years to Jim Butler Chevrolet, retiring on August 17, 2018. His work ethic, integrity, and mechanical brilliance earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike. He served many years of his career as the Shop Steward serving his coworkers for District 9 Machinist Union. Even after retirement, he returned part-time for two more years, a testament to his passion and loyalty to his Jim Butler family.

Doug was an avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist. Known to many as Biker Doug. He and Christine journeyed coast to coast and through most states in between, always in the company of his closest friends. As a proud member of the Kirkwood Harley Davidson Owners Group, Doug found a whole other family—people who shared his love of the open road and the camaraderie that came with it. He looked forward to Wednesday mornings, where he would meet his fellow F.R.O.G.S. for coffee, a ride to lunch and solving the world’s problems.

Doug had an incredible sense of humor. He was a man who could fix, build, or remodel anything, always ready to lend a hand to friends in need. His time at the Freeze Farm with lifelong friends who were like his brothers—was filled with laughter, adventure, and four wheeling. Doug’s spirit thrived in nature, in motion, and in the company of those he held dear.

Doug loved boating and spending time at his second home at Goose Creek Lake where he made many more friends and tons of family memories.

Above all, Doug loved deeply. His heart belonged to Christine, and his soul was anchored by the love they shared. His children were his pride, his joy, and his greatest accomplishment.

Doug’s life was a masterclass in loyalty, generosity, and living fully. He leaves behind a community of friends, family, and fellow riders who will carry his memory with them on every road they travel.

Ride free, Doug. Your journey continues in the hearts of all who love you.
