Donald Ziegenhorn

Ziegenhorn, Donald (Don) L., 91 of Kirkwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at The Glen at Aberdeen Heights. Don (also known as Mr. Z or just “Z” ) was born on August 22, 1934 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Bernard S. and Helen (Sornberger) Ziegenhorn. Don moved to St. Louis in 1951 to attend the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. After working as a pharmacist for several years, he began his 43 year career as a Hospital Administrator for the Veterans Administration Hospital System. While he was not a Veteran himself, Don had a strong heart for service and dedicated himself to helping and honoring those individuals who served our country.

He is survived by his daughter Linda (Bill) Port of Kirkwood, MO, son Michael (Lisa) Ziegenhorn of Tulsa, OK, grandson Zack (Kennedy) Ziegenhorn and great-granddaughter Margaret “Margo” Ziegenhorn of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Norma, and his grandson Blake Ziegenhorn of Tulsa. Don was a devoted husband to his wife Norma – his true love – who he tenderly cared for during her struggle with Parkinson’s Disease until the day of her passing in 2014. This steadfast devotion taught his adult children that love doesn’t quit when things get tough.

He was a man of tremendous faith, integrity and commitment. As his career moved his family multiple times around the country, he was a dedicated and active member of the churches they attended. He taught Disciple Bible Study classes, attended church retreats, participated in small groups and volunteered faithfully in the church communities where the family worshiped.

We wish to acknowledge and express our heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful health care providers who cared for Don as his health declined over the last years of his life. May God’s blessing be upon the loving and caring staff at The Glen at Aberdeen Heights, his caregiver Stacy, the team at Crown Hospice and his loyal and dedicated friend Jim Debnam for their love and compassion to Don as well as to our entire family.

Memorial contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association – Greater St. Louis Chapter (or a charity of your choice) in Don’s memory are welcome. Don will be interred next to his beloved wife Norma at St. Paul Churchyard in Affton, MO. His immediate family will hold a private memorial service on October 14, 2025.

It was such an honor to have cared for Don during the time we shared together. He wasn’t just someone I helped — he became a true friend and teacher in my life. In his humble way, he taught me so much about integrity, love, and respect. His wisdom, kindness, and stories will stay with me always. I will forever be grateful for the laughs we shared and the lessons he left behind. He was truly one of a kind, and I will miss him deeply 🫶🏻.
