Stephen Hughes Lawler
Lawler, Stephen Hughes (Steve), baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection on December 9, 2025 at the age of 84. We find peace in knowing he is finally free from the confusion and struggle caused by Alzheimer’s.
Steve was born on December 27, 1940 in St. Charles MO. He is preceded in death by his parents Hazel (Mackey) and Frank Lawler and his beloved wife Roma (Reeves) Lawler. He was the loving father of Keith (Laura) Lawler; cherished grandfather of Stephanie (Ryan) Simms, Ashley (Collin) Youngerman, and great-grandfather of Audrey, Claire, Dylan Simms and Theo, Landon, Nolan Youngerman; dearest Uncle, Brother-in-law, Cousin and Friend.
With heavy hearts and grateful memories we celebrate the life of Steve. His humor and wit made everyone around him feel appreciated and welcomed. A self-made man he built his success through hard work and determination. He entered the Pipefitters Union at the age of 19 and excelled at his craft over his 45 years as a Fitter. He rose through the ranks and was appointed Director of Training. He worked hard and took great pride in his efforts to strengthen the training program and ensure all state and federal safety standards were met and exceeded. Even as the disease stole his memory, his stories from his early pipefitting days stayed with him and he loved to share those memories.
Steve was an accomplished golfer, and had a lifetime love of fishing and hunting, sharing those passions with his family.
Of all his accomplishments, his proudest was his family. His love was steady, generous, and unshakable. He led by example teaching resilience, kindness, and the importance of hard work. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and love. Though he is no longer with us, the joy he spread continues to shine in the hearts of all those who knew him. He celebrated every milestone, offered guidance, patience, and showed pride not through great gestures but through everyday moments, always ready to lend a helping hand. He would always say, even near the end, “if you need anything let me know!” His love will be in our hearts forever. He will be greatly missed.
Services: Visitation at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church (4900 Ringer Road, 63129) on Tuesday December 16th, from 9:00 am until time of funeral mass at 11:00 am. Steve’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through donating his body to St. Louis University in the hopes of medical advances for others. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated. https://www.alz.org/

We were fortunate to know Steve and Roma for over 50 plus years. We have so many great memories. They will always be in our hearts. Most of all we are lucky to have two great guardian angels taking care of us from above prayers and hugs for Keith and Laura and their families. God Bless all
