Mike Z Obituary

Michael Gerard Ziegelmeier

With heavy hearts and profound love, we share the passing of Michael Gerard Ziegelmeier, “Zig”, who departed this world on January 12, 2026 at the age of 67 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. After a courageous and dignified ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, he is now at peace with Jesus, restored to the vibrant, humorous, and caring man we all knew and loved.

Mike was born on April 3, 1958, in St. Louis, the son of the late Herman and Ginnie Ziegelmeier. He was the beloved husband of Lynn Ziegelmeier (nee Burton) for 44 years. Cherished father of Amy (Bob) Daley, Ashley (Caleb) Mahon, and Samantha (Tyler) Lehde. Loving grandfather of Addi, Reese, Mason, and Brinley. Dear brother of Cathy (Alvin) Burkard. He was also a dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend to many.

Zig lit up every room he walked into. He could tell the same story dozens of times, adding that unmistakable “Zig Twist” that made it grow and somehow get funnier every single time. Through his easy humor and ability to make you feel truly heard, he had a gift for making everyone feel special.

While the last decade presented immense challenges, the essence of Zig—his kind heart and wonderful sense of humor—never truly faded. Even when words became difficult, his eyes and smile continued to reflect the loving person we all knew him to be. His legacy lives on like a well‑told “Zig Story”, passed from person to person, growing more memorable with each retelling.

“Zig”, was my supervisor for a very short time. A kind and wise professional. Hard working and upbeat. Sincere Condolences to his family and many close friends like Marty.
