Russell Gene Johnson, 56, of Sikeston, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2026, at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO, from complications of pneumonia.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Christian Johnson of Sikeston, MO. He leaves behind his children, whom he cherished deeply; Ashley (Cody) Marr of Jackson, MI, Hollyann Johnson of Sikeston, MO, Russell Johnson of Jackson, MI, and step daughter Fallon Simmons of Sikeston, MO. He was a proud grandfather to Lillian, Marley, Bella, Rayvern, McKinley, Rhett, Myles, and Micah, whom he spoke about often. He is also survived by his siblings Beverly (Dennis) Breece, Wayne (Dottie) Beck, Patricia (Gary) Maher, Ray Beck, Rayburn (Joanne) Johnson, Gordon Beck, Marilyn Fritz, Vergil (Susan) Johnson, Clayton Beck, Janet (Jimmy) Jones, Joseph (Ruby) Johnson, Kimberly (Rich) Staggs, and John (Shirley) Johnson, along with countless nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and special friends who will miss him dearly. Russell was born on December 25, 1969, to Dorothy Mae Lewis and Rayburn Hunter Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his brothers; James Beck, David Beck, Robert Beck, and David (Mara) Johnson; his sisters Helen Beck, Judy (Randy) Tolbert, Virginia (Steven) Lair; and his former spouse; Patricia Johnson, the mother of his children.

Russell spent his life working in tree service, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. Those who knew him knew he was never afraid of hard work and took pride in doing whatever it took to support the people he loved. Outside of work, Russell enjoyed the things that brought him freedom and excitement. He had a deep passion for riding motorcycles and loved the power and nostalgia of old muscle cars. Like many who grew up in the 1980s, he also had a lasting love for rock and roll, and his favorite band was Journey; whose music was often part of the soundtrack of his life.

He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love for the open road, and the memories he shared with family and friends. While his passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, they find comfort in knowing that death is not the end, but a peaceful rest until we meet again. His memory will live on in the stories told, the music played, and the love shared by all who knew him. His legacy will continue on through his siblings, children, and grandchildren, who carry forward the stories, memories, and pieces of him that will never be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place and Russell’s family will be holding a Celebration of life on June 14th, 2026 at Jokerst Memorial Park; Charlie Cayce Pavilion #5 located at 525 S. Mill Street, Festus, MO 63028 at 1pm. Please join us as we gather to honor his beautiful life. We invite you to share your stories, your smiles, and your memories.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:1-4
