James D Bess
James D. Bess born October 29, 1934 passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026 at 91 years of age.
Born in St. Louis to Vera and Sherman Bess.
James is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Theresa, his high school sweetheart; and daughters Kim Kittrell, and Kelly.
Survived by his children Mike (Leigh Ann) Bess, Julie (Mitch) Malone, son in law Kenny Kittrell, brother Ed (Kathy) Bess, grandchildren Kara (Brandon) Charbonneau, Kyle Kittrell (Gabby Zottarelle), Alexandra Bess (Jay Fieser), and Kaitlyn (Cody) Hilton.
Jim graduated from Rolla School of Mines with a degree in Electrical Engineering. For two years he worked at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He actually lost out on a job to a man named Neil Armstrong (first man on the moon)!
Jim and Theresa moved back to St. Louis where he accepted a job with Union Electric. His last position at UE, he managed the E. St. Louis division. He retired in 1995.
Being a devout Catholic he was an active member of St. Joan of Arc parish. During that time he coached the 8th grade boys soccer team that went on to win the City Championship; he served as president of the Homecoming Committee; and up to the age of 90 he would open the church doors and light the candles every day.
For many years he was an active member of the Rollo-Calcaterra American Legion Post 15 on the Hill where he served in many positions.
Anyone who knew Jim has heard his many stories and corny jokes.
In honor of Jim, have a Miller Lite, buy someone dinner, hug your family, and tell them you love them.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

A man who truly loves his family, biological and non.
