Melanie Tate

Melanie Jane Tate passed away May 6 after a brief battle with lung cancer. Melanie was born June 28, 1955 in St. Louis, MO to the late John and Glenella McGinty.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Gary Tate; children Ryan Tate (Justina) of San Antonio, TX and Amanda Braun (Ross) of Manhattan, KS; her cherished grandchildren Connor and William Tate, and Louis, Amos and Teddy Braun; her sisters Marilyn Stewart of Kirkwood, Maureen McGinty of Mission, KS and Melinda McGrath (Dick Moore) of Amelia Island, FL; sister-in-law Sally McGinty of Boston; her brother-in-law Brian Tate (Mandy Arena) of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by sister Marjorie Kilpatrick, brother John Edward McGinty, and brothers-in-law Layton Stewart and Bob Kilpatrick.

Melanie’s greatest accomplishments in life were as a wife, mother and grandmother. Family meant everything to her and she relished time with her children, grandchildren, and her large extended family. She and Gary traveled extensively to not only visit family but to all 50 states as well as many countries in Europe.

Melanie loved playing tennis and the many friends she met through the sport. She was a long time member of Chapter LT, PEO where she held several leadership positions and had many dear friends. She was a member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church.

Melanie was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. She loved dogs, and she delighted in the companionship of her own Golden Retrievers for many years.

A memorial service will be held at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 23 at 10:00. Memorial gifts may be made to Duo Dogs, www.duodogs.org.
