Damon Fitzwater
(July 4, 1940 – June 5, 2026)
Damon Dale Fitzwater passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on July 4, 1940, Damon lived a life filled with love and cherished memories. He was predeceased by his parents, Lora and Loftus Fitzwater, and his brother, Loftus “Arch” Fitzwater.
Damon is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Donna DeClue Fitzwater, and their children: Doug Fitzwater, Suzanne Fitzwater, Mindy (Bill) Anderson, and Carrie (Ted) Wegman. He was a proud grandfather to Emma (Brandon) Quillin, Caroline (Ben) Christmas, Cody Matlock, Leah Wegman, Charlotte Wegman, and Tessa Wegman. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Logan and Izzy Quillin and Bear Christmas.
A graduate of University City High School in 1958 and Central Methodist College in 1962, Damon met Donna during his college years. Together they built a life centered on family and unwavering love—a bond that served as an enduring example of partnership.
Damon enjoyed a successful career as a natural salesman, concluding his professional journey with Contemporary Merchandisers Inc. (CMI). Outside of work, he found joy in simple pleasures: time spent at the “clubhouse” on the Meramec River, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, savoring morning coffee with the newspaper, and hosting barbecues for family and friends. His extended family of cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews will fondly remember his big smile, warm hospitality, and sharp wit. Sunday dinners often concluded with a toast “to life.”
If you are compelled, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or Missouri Department of Conservation. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sunrise – Webster Groves for their compassionate care during Damon’s final years. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bartolino’s South Restaurant (5914 S. Lindbergh Blvd). Family and friends are invited to share stories and honor a life well-lived.
