Alice Witt
Alice Genevieve (Armistead) Witt passed away in Columbia, Illinois on July 5, 2026, at Nexus Nursing Home.
Alice was born August 15, 1936, in Leslie, MO to the late Thomas Wilburn Armistead and the late Lula Dell (Cox) Armistead.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters, Pamela Reed and Tammie Brown, her brothers Henry Armistead and Robert Armistead, her sisters Hazel (Armistead) Brown, Helen (Armistead) Starks and Edith (Armistead) Parks, and infant sisters Mary and Lula.
Alice is survived by her daughters Brenda (Mike) Harris of Columbia, IL and Connie (Dustin) Williams of Waterloo, IL , her stepson Richard (Patsy) Witt of Springfield, MO, her sister Mary (Bill) Ackerman of Sullivan, MO, son-in- law Ron Brown of Goldsboro, North Carolina, grandsons David (Becky) Reed, Richard Reed, Michael Harris II, Sam Slaughter, Logan Slaughter, Steven Brown and Randy Brown, granddaughters Crystal Harris and Candace Werner, great grandchildren Madeleine, Sophie, Brendan, Taylor, Cadence, Slade and Aniyah, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alice married Richard Witt in 1954. They made their home and started their family in the St, Louis where Alice worked in the St. Louis shoe manufacturing industry for several years. As their family grew, they moved to Cahokia, Illinois where they raised four daughters. Opportunity came knocking one day and Alice became a Stanley Home Products dealer. Her ability to sell, her gift of gab and great customer service made her very successful. She was promoted to an area manager but that did not hold her back from her love of the in-home parties and one on one sales. As the in-home party trend began to decrease, she went into retail. Alice worked for K-Mart several years. When they moved to Waterloo, she went to work at Rural King and became the popcorn lady and always has some special deal at the door she would try to sell.
Alice was also an avid bargain hunter. There was no yard sale too big or too small that she would not try to find some new treasure. Alice also enjoyed fishing with family and friends. During her later years in Farmington, MO her grandson, Rick, was her fishing buddy. I’m sure he has stories to share.
Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was always fun and never met a stranger. She taught us that strangers are just friends you haven’t meet yet. Rest high on that mountain with daddy, Pam and Tammie and all of your other family that have gone before. You did a great job mom. You deserve the rest.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday July 18, 2026 at Restoration Chapel, 235 Grand Ave., Waterloo, IL
Visitation is at 1:00 with the service starting at 1:30
