Michael David Hemm, 27, went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2026 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on July 2, 1998 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, to David Hemm and the late Annette Abernathy Hemm.

Michael met Sara in August 2018, and they were married on June 19, 2021, in Branson, Missouri. As a husband, he was gentle, thoughtful, selfless, attentive, and a patient listener. He showed his love in quiet, practical ways—preparing meals, suggesting activities Sara enjoyed, and often returning home with a small gift simply because it made him think of her.

Michael had the heart of a Good Samaritan. Sara recalled many occasions when they witnessed an accident or saw someone along the road who needed help. Michael was always the first to offer assistance. When someone was in need, he no longer considered his time his own; he stayed until the situation was resolved. Those who knew him best appreciated his kindness and his listening ear.

Michael grew up helping with his father’s turtle-farming operation, and his father later employed him as a stump grinder. Away from work, he enjoyed NASCAR, video games—especially The Elder Scrolls Online and DC Universe Online—and films. He particularly loved movie soundtracks, the Superman films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Interstellar, and the work of director Christopher Nolan. He took pride in recognizing film scores and especially enjoyed the music of Hans Zimmer.

He loved animals and treasured time with his cats, Snow and Autumn, and loved endlessly throwing a tennis ball for his BorderAussie dog, Percy. Michael also loved cooking and was always trying new recipes for Sara and himself to enjoy. He dreamed of developing the skills and gathering the tools to become a great sushi chef. His collection of LEGO minifigures, Gundam kits, and metal models reflected his love of building, while bike rides and hikes with Sara were among his favorite ways to spend time outdoors.

When illness came suddenly, Michael responded in faith and chose to fight. His favorite Scripture was Isaiah 41:10, with its comforting promise: “Fear not, for I am with you.” His faith, gentleness, and courage will remain part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sara; his father, David Hemm; his siblings, Sarah Hemm, Josiah Hemm, and Rebekah Hemm; and his parents-in-law, Kevin and Donella Moody. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Abernathy Hemm.

A celebration service of Michael’s life will be held on September 19, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Sycamore Log Church in Branson, Missouri.

Michael will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a heart for those around him. Those who loved him believe he would want them to keep going and to choose joy wherever it can be found.
