December 9, 1933 – August 21, 2026

Joan Eleanor Hancock, 92, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026 at the St. Louis de Greef Hospice House. Joan was born December 9, 1933 in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rolland (Handy) Hancock; her parents, Sarah and Clarence Dalyrmple; her sisters, Doris Landes and Sue Magoon; and her brother Chester Dalrymple. Joan is survived by her cherished children: Lisa (Craig) Bartholic, James (Irene) Hancock, and Julie (Paul) Wolff; along with nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Joan graduated from Fort Madison High School. She worked at Northwestern Bell in Fort Madison Iowa for 10 years. On July 17, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Rolland (Handy) Hancock. She dedicated her life to raising her three children, while creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.

She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she held several church offices over the years, and participated in many church activities. Joan
enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking meals for her family, baking, and visiting with family and friends. During the holiday season she spent countless hours in the kitchen
making cookies for those she loved. Joan had a special gift of offering comfort and compassion to everyone she knew. A simple conversation with her – and her gift for “gab’- often left people inspired and laughing. She was a beautiful example of how to live, exemplifying the true meaning of compassion.

Joan was pure of heart and had a wonderful sense of humor. She will be deeply missed for her stories, her kindness, and her gracious soul. We celebrate the legacy she
leaves behind- one of grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. May she rest in peace. Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of St. Louis Cremation.
