Spencer Tegtmeyer, age 48, of St. Peter’s Missouri, passed away following a courageous battle with complications from type 1 diabetes.

Born on June 15, 1978, in Missouri, Spencer was a graduate of Rockwood Summit High School and went on to attend St. Charles Community College. He spent much of his professional career in the credit collections industry, applying his sharp mind and natural persuasiveness at companies including GC Services, MCI Projects, Central Credit Services, Client Services Incorporated, and the Law Firm of Gerald E. Moore and Associates. Recognized for his work ethic and talent, he was frequently honored as “Collector of the Month” and named a “Top 50 Collector.”

When diabetes led to vision loss, Spencer partnered with Rehabilitation Services for the Blind and became a passionate, formidable advocate for the disabled community. As an elected Legislative Representative of St. Charles County Council of the Blind, Spencer traveled to Jefferson City to lobby lawmakers, using his negotiation skills and unwavering voice to champion equal rights and access for others.

Spencer enjoyed spirited debates, deep intellectual discussions, good food, collecting beer steins, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Spencer was preceded in death by his father, William “Bud” G. Tegtmeyer, Jr. ; his maternal grandparents, Charles Lamar and Jean Lamar; his paternal grandparents. William G. Tegtmeyer, Sr. and Charlotte L. Tegtmeyer; and his cousin Matthew Tegtmeyer.

He is survived by his mother Karen S. Tegtmeyer; his sister, Erin Thierauf and her husband, Charles, his nieces, Madeleine Thierauf and Charlie Thierauf Buss (Austin); his great-niece and great-nephew, Emerson and Greyson Buss; his extended family members, friends and fellow advocates in the community.

In accordance with his wishes, Spencer will be cremated and a private family gathering will be held. In lieu of formal services, memorial contributions may be made in Spencer’s honor to the St. Charles County Council of the Blind or Rehabilitation Services for the Blind.
