Todd Richard Vierling
May 31, 1963- October 14, 2026
Todd Richard Vierling passed away on October 14, 2026, in St. Louis Missouri, due to complications following liver transplant surgery.
Born on May 31, 1963, in St. Louis, Missouri, Todd, grew up in Baden and graduated from Lutheran North High School. He continued his education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where he earned his master’s degree along with multiple professional certifications.
Todd dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the St. Louis Public Schools system, serving as both a teacher and a counselor. Throughout his career, he touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. He retired in November 2024, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the students and community he cared so deeply about.
Beyond his career, Todd had an insatiable passion for travel, adventure, and perhaps most of all, the people he met along the way. An avid world traveler, he explored nearly every corner of the globe, embracing new cultures, experiences, adventures and friendships wherever he went.
In his younger years, Todd pioneered what might be best described as the world’s most ambitious couch surfing program. Hotels were fine, but why stay in one when you could stay with a friend, a friend of a friend, or someone you met just a few hours earlier who was destined to become a lifelong friend?
In later years, Tood developed a taste for slightly more comfortable accommodations and discovered his love for cruising. The couches may have given way to balconies and room service, but his enthusiasm for seeing the world and meeting new people never changed. His passport collected stamps, but his true travel legacy was built on the relationships he formed around the world.
Funny, outgoing, and endlessly social, Todd had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together. While he may not have been particularly enthusiastic about sharing his meals, he was always happy to share his friends. He had plenty to share!
His friendships were as varied and colorful as his travels, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome was one of his greatest gifts. He will be deeply missed by the countless people who loved him. The world feels a little smaller without him in it, but thanks to the connections he created and the lives he touched, his spirit will live on in the reunions, shared laughter, new adventures, and friendships both old and new.
Todd was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Patricia Vierling; survived by his brother, Tom Vierling, sister-in-Law, Diana Vierling, nephew, Patrick Martin, niece, Kelleigh Martin and great-niece, Kendra Martin. He is also survived by his extended family, including uncles, aunts, cousins and many other relatives who will cherish his memory.
Perhaps the best way to honor Todd is to do what he did so naturally; explore someplace new, welcome a stranger, introduce two friends, and never pass up an opportunity to make a memory. If you knew Todd, chances are your life is richer for it.
