Penelope Starre Jensen

It is with both grief and joy that the family of Penelope Starre Browning Jensen (nee Greenwood) announces she met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on October 20, 2026.

Penel was born on July 6, 1944, in Trenton, Missouri, to Claude and Betty Greenwood.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rollin Jensen; father, Claude Greenwood, Jr.; stepfather and mother, Sol and Betty Ziff; brother, Danny Greenwood; and sister, Claudette Ralls.

Penel is survived by her children: Rachel Browning Wagner (Chris) of Wentzville, MO; David Browning (Johnia), Mark Browning, both of Nashville, TN; Ann Jensen Feist (Jim) of Mankato, MN, and Raquel Jensen Berg (Mike) of Wyoming, MN. She is also survived by her former husband, Gerald Browning of Moberly, MO, father of Rachel, David, and Mark.

She is survived by nine grandchildren: Tyler Green (Lauren), Tiffany Spring (Rick), Alex Green (Saun), Ashton Green (Megan), Katie Stewart (Jesse), Nathaniel Browning, Adam Feist (Amber), and Isabella and Sophia Berg. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Everett, Lennon, Clancy, Nova, Delmar, Liam, Hudson and Kati.

Penel loved spending time with family, her face especially lighting up when seeing the babies and children. She had many gifts and interests. One of those was hospitality – baking, cooking and welcoming others into their home. She was an accomplished seamstress who created many beautifully tailored gowns for brides and bridesmaids. Later, she owned businesses selling fabrics and patterns for quilts and other handcrafts.

Music was one of Penel’s greatest gifts. She began playing piano at a young age. In her teens, her family formed a gospel quartet, the Greenwood Family Gospel Singers. They traveled extensively during the late 1950s and early 1960s singing at churches and revival meetings, and recording several gospel albums. She played piano many years in her church in Moberly, Union Avenue Christian Church, in the local Moberly Music Club, in Minnesota churches she attended, as well as accompanying various gospel quartets.

To the enjoyment and amazement of staff and fellow residents in her memory care facility, she continued to enjoy playing and accompanied the weekly Hymn Sing for a time while in her early 80s. Penel shared her God-given gifts of music and connection with many throughout her years and in the last few years, impacted her fellow residents with specific gifts of connection – smiles, kindness and empathy. Penel, also lovingly called Penelope, will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Penel’s honor, details to be shared later.

Memorials may be given to FaithBridge Church in Park Rapids, MN; or to Adventure Church, Bentonville, AR, where her grandson Tyler ministers.

The following chorus of “I’m Feelin’ Fine”, a favorite sung often by The Greenwood Family Gospel Singers, speaks to God’s amazing grace and her hope realized.

Well I’m feelin’ mighty fine, I’ve got heaven on my mind
Don’t you know I want to go, Where the milk and honey flow
There’s a light that always shines, Down inside this heart of mine
I’ve got heaven, heaven on my mind, And now I’m feelin’ mighty fine.
