Frances was the wife for 60 years of the late Gordon Frey, and previously the late Robert Johnson. Mother of the late Robin Wilson and Heidi Currier (Carter Smith). Grandmother of Darcy (Brett) Woodyatt, William Scott, Megan Currier (Tyler Stableford), Anne (Adam) Michaels, David (Wendy) Currier, and Custis and Barkley Smith. Great-grandmother of Jake, Emma and Henry (Woodyatt), Annabelle and Sam (Stableford), Jack, Lucy and Luke (Michaels) and Tasmin (Smith). Sister-in-law of Gretchen Gulick and Evelyn Parziali. Aunt of Jonathan Gulick, Elizabeth Dougherty, Amy Gulick, Ricky and Gordon Englert. Mother-in-law of William Scott.
Frances was born in Milton, Massachusetts. She attended the Prince School of Retailing in Boston and worked at Jordan Marsh. She and Gordon moved to St. Louis in 1956. During their 26 years here Frances was active in the Episcopal Church, serving 16 years on the Diocesan Board in St. Louis and as a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Frances was also a volunteer with St. Luke’s Hospital, served on the John Burroughs School Mothers’ Council and as a docent at the Missouri Historical Society. She was a realtor with Ira Berry as well.
Frances and Gordon retired to their beloved Cape Cod in 1982, near where they grew up and to their mothers and daughter Robin. In 2004 they returned to St. Louis to live at The Willows in Chesterfield, where they were reunited with several friends from their previous years in St. Louis. Frances very much enjoyed the activities there, especially playing bridge. Frances most cherished her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She and Gordon traveled often to visit family and take part in their activities. In later years her family traveled to her, which was always a special event. “Mingie”, as she was known, stayed in touch with all of her family from oldest to youngest, and took great pleasure in keeping up with those close to her.
