“Larry” Lawrence Zwilling
Lawrence (Larry) Zwilling passed peacefully into the Love of God on Sunday December 8, 2013.
Born on April 29, 1922, he lived 91 years. Son of George and Louise Zwilling (Schantz), Larry was born in Dexter, Missouri, then moved with his family to St. Louis, where he lived most of his life. He was preceded in passing by his parents, his sister Alice Rowin (Zwilling) and her husband Bill Rowin, as well as his brother Charles Zwilling, and step-father Frank Gerdt. Larry grew up in St. Louis City where he met his beloved wife Myrt, his childhood sweetheart. Larry enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier Breton as Seaman Second Class gunnery mate, till the end of WWII.
He married Myrtle Rocklage on February 12, 1944 and remained happily married till her passing in June 2011. Larry was also preceded in passing by his father/mother-in-law Harry Rocklage Sr. and Alma Rocklage (Ziercher), and brother-in-law Harry Rocklage Jr., a heroic veteran of WWII and causality of the Korean war.
Larry and Myrt lived a long, happy, and love-filled life. Both were members of Bethany United Church of Christ where they were married, and where their children were baptized and confirmed. Larry had personally received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Larry worked for 42 years as a stockman at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works, while Myrt managed their home on Shulte in Walnut Park. Larry retired in 1985 to live his life’s dream at Lake of the Ozarks. Larry and Myrt spent their final years in comfort at the St. Louis Altenheim.
Larry and Myrt are survived by their three beloved daughters: Sharon Randolph (Mansker) and husband Robert Randolph, Sandy Lowery and husband Tom Lowery, and Kathy Kondracki. They were blessed with and survived by, five grandchildren: Stacey Auvenshine (Mansker) and husband Lee Auvenshine, Bryan Lowery and wife Karen Lowery, Elaine Dauer (Lowery) and husband Jeff Dauer, Steve Mansker and wife Darla Mansker, Rachel Shakofsky (Lowery) and husband Ryan Shakofsky, and one granddog Molly Kondracki. They were also survived by 15+ great-grandchildren: Samantha Lowery, Tom Dauer-Filbert , Christopher Mansker, Corinne Auvenshine, Misty Auvenshine, Kara Dauer, Natalie Auvenshine, Lucas Mansker, Abigail Mansker, Tripp Auvenshine, Leo Shakofsky, Max Lowery, Kate Dauer, Laine Shakofsky, T.J. Lawrence Lowery and expected Baby Dauer. Surviving family also consists of: Patricia Samel (Rocklage),her husband Earl Samel and his daughter Chris Samel; Lynne Stoneburner (Rocklage) and her children: Christian Webb & family; and Matthew Webb & family. David Rowin and wife Peggy Rowin and sons: Scott Rowin, Soloman Rowin, Chris Rowin & their families; Tim Rowin; Jon Rowin and wife Sonya Rowin, their children: Nick Rowin, and Katie Fimbres (Rowin) her husband Logan Fimbres, and baby Ava Fimbres.
Our Dad was the kindest man we have ever known. He impacted the lives of his family, friends and many others with his love, generosity and patience. Our Mom and Dad will be missed beyond what any words could convey, for they were filled with the light of love, kindness, and humility. They live on in the hearts of us All.
