Celia Scott-Russell Jones
Celia Scott-Russell Jones passed from this life Sunday, October 12 at the age of 102. She was born in England on May 5, 1912 to Elizabeth Williams and Frank Scott-Russell. Celia was married to Arthur Charles Jones (deceased 1982), of Webster Groves 44 years. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Russell Caldwell, of Hamilton, New Zealand, as well as her four daughters: Elizabeth Jones Searles (J. Michael), Margaret Jones Odgers (Joseph F.), Santa Barbara, CA, Janet Jones Mickow (Vernon, deceased), and Susan Eloise Jones (Clyde E. Witt), Cleveland, Ohio.
Celia was a loving grandmother to David, James, Daniel, and Christopher Searles; Scott and Matt Odgers; Jennifer Rook Zenisek; Bill and Kate Sprengnether. She was excited to be great-grandmother to fourteen as well as aunt and great-aunt to numerous nieces and nephews living in the U.S, New Zealand, Australia and England. Celia will be deeply missed and held in the hearts of her family, friends and care-givers.
In 1936 Celia left England to teach at Maryville College (now University) for a year. She met Arthur Jones during that time and they married in 1938. They raised their four daughters in Webster Groves. Celia has resided in Kirkwood since 1977.
Celia volunteered for many organizations. A few are Webster Groves Theatre Guild, American Girl Scouts, Manor Grove Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, Kirkwood Library, Missouri Botanic Garden and a founder of the St Louis Jarvis Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire.
Together, Celia and Arthur enjoyed many activities: camping, fishing, boating and traveling in their motor home. Celia continued traveling after her husband died, going on cruises and international trips with her many friends and family. She was a faithful attendee of the St. Louis Symphony until age 100. Celia was not timid, taking up rug hooking at the age of 78. Her greatest passion was planning and tending her beautiful English garden.
Our darling, beloved Celia will be deeply missed. Always the gracious hostess, she was an elegant and dignified woman who made a special connection with all whom she met.
Special thanks to the Nurses and Company Hospice team of: Kim, Emily and Laura, Angela and Noel. Additional thanks to in-home caregivers Tonya, Alisha, Gabriel, Donna.
A memorial will be arranged at a later date. Online information at www.stlouiscremation.com
Never down, always thoughtful and inspiring, knowledgeable and kind.
She will always be loved and remembered
We have loved the stories about Mum from Susan. She had such a zest for life!
I can only guess how much she will be missed by Susan and Clyde. I think one of the things she would have liked everyone to remember about her is her positive and pleasant attitude toward others and toward living!!
I will always remember Celia for her kindness and love of my Mother Dorothy, her little sister she will-be much missed by both of us
I drove the two of them across Europe ,chatting and giggling together ,very fond memories
The Rug Hooking Guild of St. Louis sends condolences and love to Celia’s family for a life well lived.

From Deenie
Celia was a truly remarkable woman who will be missed a great deal. The bond that she shared with her sister Dorothy, my Nana, was exceptional both in its length (over a century!) and depth, and is a fitting contribute to Celia’s commitment to family and warm heart. We are sad that we can not be with you to celebrate Celia’s very full life, but our thoughts are with you. Much love, the New Zealand Caldwells.
I lived in Barrett Brae 25 years ago and remember Celia so well.
I loved her accent and the fact that she was a fun but gentile lady in every sense of the word and always kind and gentle.
She will be missed by many.
(I’m also a friend of Helena Franke).
Blessings to the family.
No one will ever forget Cella, she was magic. So very sorry, Love, Joan
She was such a wonderful woman, fun and full of life is how I will always remember her. All our love from NZ. X
What a wonderful life Aunt Celia had and how blessed she was with good health for so long and the wonderful daughters she and Art had. I will also remember the wonderful childhood memories I had going over to Uncle Art and Aunt Celia’s house, especially at Christmas when Santa would appear (Uncle Art). Uncle Art & Aunt Celia also were the ones who taught Betsy & I how to water ski as well as many trips on their boat. Ann meet Aunt Celia when she was older and was impressed with how kind she was and so full of class and grace. A special thank you goes out to Janet for the wonderful care you provided to Aunt Celia.
