Duncan Alexander Jamieson
Duncan Alexander Jamieson, January 21, 1930 – April 25, 2016, age 86. Passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening. Duncan is survived by his four children, Donna L. Henderson (Stuart), Tracy L. Freeman, Todd A. Jamieson, Sandra R. Jamieson, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Jamieson, mother Margaret “Daisy” Mairs-Jamieson, and sister Margaret R. Killam.
Duncan was born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey, and upon graduation from high school, he attended college at Patterson State Teachers College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After college, he enlisted in the United States Navy, earning his commission as an Ensign and serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). Upon his discharge from active duty, Duncan returned to New Jersey where he taught 7th grade History and English. After several years teaching, he decided to make a career change and accepted a job as a Salesman with DENTSPLY International, from where he retired after a very successful 37 years of service.
Duncan enjoyed many hobbies and outdoor activities to include gardening, traveling, swimming, and time near any water or beach. His one stand-out passion though was golf. He was never one to turn down a round with his many friends and colleagues and played his final rounds just days before his death.
Duncan was a stellar example of what a father, grandfather, and friend should be. His unrelenting and timeless love for his family and friends was always apparent and without prejudice. He was loved and admired by many, and his memory will certainly be everlasting to all that knew him.
A Celebration of his Life for family and friends will be held at his home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, 2016.
