Larry Edmond Erwin

Larry Edmond Erwin, 75, died peacefully Saturday, May 14, surrounded by his loving family. Larry is survived by his wife, Jayne Kimball Erwin, and his son, Brandon Edward Erwin, both of Jackson, Missouri, two sisters, Pat Blackwell and Winona Smith of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and his brother David Erwin of Salt Lake City, Utah, in addition to many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his unborn daughter, his parents, Ruby and Leland Erwin, His brothers-in law Bobby “Joe” Blackwell and Glenn Smith, his late nephew, Brian Smith, all of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and his father-in-law, Edward F. Kimball of Elmhurst, Illinois. Larry served in The United States Airforce and received his Bachelors of Science in Finance from Indiana State University. Larry’s career spanned decades in the service of credit unions in Missouri, Illinois and Arizona. He served as the Vice President of Mid-States Corporate Federal Credit Union in Oak Brook, Illinois. It was while working for Mid-States that Larry met his wife, Jayne in 1983. They married October 13, 1991. Becoming Brandon’s dad was Larry’s most cherished gift. He shared his love of music, memories of playing the trombone, watching movies and all things Sci-Fi, especially Star Wars, with his son. They saw movies as often as possible and talked about them daily. Larry benefitted miraculously thru the treatment of the late Dr. Scott Gibbs. Larry, Jayne and Brandon were honored to call him not only doctor but their friend.

While many were touched by Larry’s life, his dearest & faithful friend, best man and confidant of 43 years remains Dave Reindl. Through thick, thin & everything in between, Nancy Grab, has been Larry’s #1 cousin; ALWAYS there to love, visit him anywhere he lived, lift his spirits, sing, laugh, guide, remember & cry while she honestly shared whatever was needed. Nancy’s mother, Eleanor, was Larry’s favorite Aunt and it was she who came to room 412 to take Larry’s hand from Brandon and walk him to God.

The staff of the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. Louis has provided loving care and has become family. Larry will be deeply missed by all.

Visitation will be Monday, May 23rd from 9:30a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 11725 Bellefontaine Rd., St. Louis, MO. The Reverend David Hulshof will officiate. Burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks Military Cemetery in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates financial support to help them honor Larry’s final wishes.

One of my fondest memories was at Wendy’s wedding with Connie as well and we all fed food to each others dates.. I know somewhere I still have that pic of feeding Larry I think cherries and Jayne feeding adam. All night the 5 of us just had the best time and laughed so much. It was a great night and a wonderful memory. Many more would follow Larry scaring you driving on and taking the s curve on lsd too fast. Well he was blessed to have you and Brandon and you were blessed to have found h as well. Rip Larry.
