Rick called me two weeks ago after my Dad died and we talked for an hour. He really calmed me down. At one point, I started crying and he did too, but he continued to console me. I am so blessed to have had him as a friend – he was more like a Brother. He was sick and dying and he preferred to comfort me. He never left my side when there was trouble (trouble that I usually initiated). I wish I could have done more for him and will miss him for the rest of my life.
You were a good friend to everyone you knew … you touched a lot of lives with your love and caring … you are at rest now and in the arms of family and friends who have gone before … you will be missed by all who knew you … love you scoop
The best center fielder I played & it was a pleasure to know you & to see your smile with that dry humor will really miss you Scoop.
I will never forget going to softball games with my sister Theresa (Gaska) Haftertepe, and watching Mickey Hafertepe and Scoop play! I have to admit, I had a bit of a schoolgirl crush on him as a little girl! Those are good memories I hold dear of my sister, Theresa, who we lost 11 years ago, and Scoop, an all star player and my first crush! I will hold Ricky and his loved ones always in the light with prayers of peace and comfort in this time of loss.
Scoop, I will always remember the fun times we had down at Mizzou when the team would be lucky to win 3 games in those particular lean years. Rest in peace.
We had a lot of fun times in the past. Mec and I will miss you knowing you are no longer here. Softball season was always the best of times.
Reading all of these messages, it is easy to realize that Scoop was loved by all and made a huge imprint on everyone he met. We are so sorry for your loss and can only hope you find peace and comfort in your memories.
Scoop had the biggest heart … and all the kids knew it. He will be missed by many but definitely not forgotten. .. too many stories to ever stop remembering.
Rickey was such a wonderful, loving guy. I considered him a very dear friend that would always be there. His suffering is over and he is now watching over all of us. Rest in peace my dear friend. I have many wonderful memories to remember you by. I will miss you forever.
Rickey and I grew up on the same street and have known each other since kindergarten. We would meet each other walking to DeSales on many days for 13 years. I’ll always remember hanging around Fox Park and working together at Frentzels Market. I enjoyed playing and talking sports with him. We had a great time playing basketball our senior year even though we didn’ t win a game. I wish I could have seen him more later in life but I moved from St Louis. I will miss my life long friend!
Scoop & I had a lot in common and had deep conversations many times into the early morning hours on Dr. Joe’s steps. He will be missed but Heaven has gained a great angel! Blessings in abundance Scoop’s family!
I lived right across the alley from Rickey and I went to St. Francis de Sales grade and high school with him. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance in our high school’s production of The Sound of Music. He played Capt. Von Trapp. He made the character his and he was great. I also had some classes with him in high school. He was a great guy. We shall miss you Alum!
