Lenn Joseph Scheibal died Sunday, Sept. 18th at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO with his loving wife at his side.

He was born Feb. 1, 1949 in Highland IL to the late Leonard F. Scheibal and the late Elda Hering Scheibal . He was preceded in death by his brother James Scheibal .

Lenn is survived by his wife of 20 years, Denise L. Scheibal (nee Gordon), whom he married in Salem Ohio, his sister Sandra (Tom) Falb ,his aunt Lorraine Wieseman, his nephew Derek ( Carey) Falb , his nieces Danielle (Rob) Sedlak , & Marjorie Falb. He was also uncle to young Hayden Falb, Cameron Falb, Kennedy Falb , Thomas Sedlak & Raleigh Sedlak . Many cousins also survive him.

Raised in the small town of Worden, Illinois, Lenn was the epitome of Midwestern, German Lutheran values. He got his love of sports, especially baseball, from his Dad, “Lefty”. Lenn’s values and background carried him across the world on his many adventures, providing him with the perfect balance of humility, class, and culture. His character transpired into everything that he did. Lenn graduated from Worden High School , where he was active in sports and was very proud of being selected to receive the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete Award in 1967. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to The University of Missouri, Rolla (Missouri Science & Technology) and graduated in 1971 with a BS in Ceramic Engineering, then went on to earn his MBA from the University of Wisconsin. Lenn served in the US Army and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity at U of M Rolla.

In addition to athletics & academics, Lenn Scheibal had a talent for business, starting with his first job in Wisconsin with the Kohler Company. He relocated to California to work for Kaiser Aluminum, followed by a stint with National Refractories & Minerals, where he became a vice president. He returned to St. Louis and retired in 2006 as President & CEO of General Sign Company.

Lenn was at his best when surrounded by friends & family. He loved hosting the family Christmas dinner. He loved to cook and entertain and made large quantities of excellent gumbo & red beans with rice for several memorable Mardi Gras parties he hosted. Lenn had a genuine interest in other religions & cultures but was passionate & opinionated about politics and current events and didn’t & hesitate to speak his mind. His wife & many cousins will miss his presence and friendly conversation at the annual family reunion.

Lenn was a great friend to his cousin Larry Kolesa, brothers-in law Tom Falb & Mark Gordon and long-time friends Steve Masinelli and Randy Smith.

He leaves behind a world that will be a little less bright & a little more boring, especially during Christmas dinner.
