Beverly Clyde Wilborn

Beverly Clyde “BC” Wilborn, 95, of Collinsville, IL, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017. He was born in Pickett County, TN and grew up in Grayville, IL where he was a star basketball player. He served in WWII aboard the USS Maryland and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. His duty continued on the USS Columbia, where he survived several Kamikaze attacks earning him a Purple Heart with a gold star. He was employed as the postmaster in Grayville, IL transferring to St. Louis as a mail handler, retiring in 1972.

He was a thoroughbred racing enthusiast and purchased a pair of yearlings in 1968 at Keeneland, KY. He owned and trained horses for many years. He enjoyed college basketball and was a diehard Cubs fan. He enjoyed the annual USS Columbia reunions and attended the 75 year Pearl Harbor reunion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: John Paul Wilburn, Earl Wilburn, and George Odell Wilburn.

He is survived by sons and daughters: Terry Clyde (JoAnn )Wilborn, John Kevin (Melinda) Wilborn, Edith (Ron) Stanton, Sandy (Robert) Richmond, 8 grandchildren: Rhett Wilborn, Toby Wilborn, Ethan Wilborn, Megan Wilborn, Jeremy Stanton, Sonya Russo, Jason Richmond, Wendy Schmidt, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

A Celebration of Life will be held August 8th in the horseman’s lounge at Fairmount Park race track following live racing. A graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors.
