Florence “Flo” McCarthy
Florence “Flo” Elizabeth McCarthy (nee Johnson) entered Heaven’s Gate on October 24th, 2017.
Flo was born on November 3, 1929 to the late Russell Warren and Florence Ella Johnson (nee Neely)
Flo was a much loved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend to many. Flo enjoyed a great game of cards (especially when she won) and family stories around the kitchen table. She loved working in her garden and making a beautiful home for her family. Every Christmas was magical and she brought in many a New Year by ringing the cow bell on the front porch. Flo was active in her children’s lives and always supported their dreams and aspirations. She treasured her time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Later in life she enjoyed her time in the Red Hat Society, but her unwavering faith in the Lord kept her as an active member of Calvary United Church of Christ for most of her life.
Flo was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Warren McCarthy; her sons, Michael Joseph and Randall Warren McCarthy; her brothers, James and David “Herbie” Johnson; and her dearest life long friend, Audrey.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Sandrea) and daughter, Karen (Steve) Merritt; grandchildren, Kelley (Chris), Christian (Jennifer), Katie, Shelly (Kevin), Ian, Madalyn, Raychel (Chris), and Bryan; and great-grandchildren, Mackenna, Annabella, Drew, Jaci, Bradley, and Kaden; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
While her passing is difficult for us, we find comfort that she is now reunited with her loving husband and sons. Flo was a loving, kind soul and a tremendous blessing for all that knew her.
A memorial to honor her beautiful life will be held on, what would have been her 88th birthday, Friday, November 3rd at Calvary United Church of Christ, 2501 Hartland Avenue, Overland, Mo 63114. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. Service will be 11:00 a.m. A luncheon in the Fellowship Hall will follow. The family is asking contributions be made to Calvary United Church of Christ.
“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46.10). Peace is with you now…we will miss you and will forever hold a place in our hearts.
