Donald James McCarthy
Donald James McCarthy passed away on August 23, 2019 just shy of his 80th birthday and the day after what would have been his parents’ 83rd wedding anniversary.
Don did it his way. He was a man of many talents. A strong man with a loving heart. Don enjoyed Dodge trucks, country music, and chewing on cigars. His eyes twinkled when he smiled, and his laugh was infectious. Later in life his motto became, “I’m not as good as I once was but I’m as good once as I ever was”.
In his passing he joins his parents, sister, grandson, many friends, and beloved fur babies. He leaves behind his long-time wife and companion, Nancee McCarthy, his children, and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brandon A. Boehmer Memorial Scholarship through East Central College (Union, MO) or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The family will hold a private celebration of life to fulfill his wish, “when I get where I’m going there’ll be only happy tears… don’t cry for me down here”.
From Ron’s first breath to Don’s last breath, he was very proud to have his son in his life. As father, Don provided love, wisdom and wealth. Don was a large presence in his son’s life and his guidance was invaluable. Ron’s father not being here will not diminish a lifetime of memories, his respect and the love in his heart.
