Betty Young

Betty Brown Young was born on March 31, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to Pauline Brown. Pauline Brown, and her parents, Irene and Carl Bransford, all preceded her in death. Her brother, Benny Brown, and sister, Walline Smith also preceded her in death.

Betty accepted Christ at the Galilee M. B. Church under the leadership of Pastor I. C. Peay, Sr. and was baptized.

Betty attended and graduated from Soldan High School in 1972.

In 1972, Betty married Willie Neal. Betty subsequently became the proud parent of Nordina Neal, Leon Neal, and Irene Brown. While raising her children, Betty worked at various jobs. Some of the most memorable are: the U. S. Postal Service, instructor at St. Louis University, and her last employer, Brown Shoe Company/The May Company. Betty retired from the May Company around 2008.

In 2003, Betty remarried to Henry Young.

In 2012, Betty united with the Grace Apostolic Church in Florissant, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Harmon Swanigan.

There were many things about Betty that you may not know! Betty used to model as a teenager/young adult, she used to sew, liked to dance, and was an excellent cook! Those who know Betty actually listened to her when she would say she couldn’t cook (and didn’t!).

With all of the challenges in life, Betty she continued as a strong woman and received all of the blessings God provided to her. She met her health challenges with strength and faith.

Betty transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 1:55am @ Evelyn’s House.

She leaves cherished memories to: her children, Nordina Neal (William Harris); Leon Neal, both of St. Louis, MO; Irene Brown (Lester Rubio) of Houston, TX; brother, Lester C. Brown of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 nieces; 3 nephews; and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
