In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Luke’s parish.
Pat had a warm and generous heart, always willing to reach out a helping hand. She was a faithful friend of Bill W. for 39 years. She was a loyal member of the Ladies Guild and helped the altar society to clean the altar and candlesticks for years. St. Luke’s was always “my St. Luke’s.” She loved her parish—it was a place of prayer and life. She was a gadget queen—she could turn the outside Christmas lights off from her bedside. She liked shopping in a hardware store more than anywhere else. She had a creative mind; she could sew beautiful curtains and paint a giant backdrop for a play. She loved to swim—especially in the sea. She loved to hear her husband, Gerry, sing and delighted in the family singing along. She was always up on current affairs and would say a thing or two about the state of politics in our world. Her love remains in the hearts of her family and all those who knew her. Her laughter and wry sense of humor will ring in our ears for years to come. We love you mom!
Dear Fr. Mahoney and Family,
We were so sorry to learn of mother, wife, grandmother’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May you be comforted by the beautiful memories of times shared with her and the knowledge that she is at peace with our loving Lord in heaven.
Sincerely,
Mary and Bob Poettker
Dear Mary Mahoney (and siblings),
Your mom was a treasure in so many ways! and 39 years! Hope a lot of her friends turn out in true Bill W tradition, we clean up good!. I hope I can make it to her memorial mass. You dad and I and Paul Steingruby senior shared the St. Luke’s choir loft together for many years. Although you were with my sister ,June, and Brian was with my brother ,Paul, I knew all of you as youngsters from the time you moved into St. Lukes. I always liked and felt closest to you – maybe it was the red hair? or being a fellow Xavier-ite?. Or just being a “Luker.” Your strength growing up really inspired me, Mary. You had to be mother hen when you were just a baby chick. I know your mom was/is proud of you. she and I talked over the years about her love for all of you and her struggles with her failure to be the mommy you ALL needed. I hope you all have come to see your mom in a better light, I know things were not pretty at times. She was a devout Catholic, she grew to be a loving mother, grandmother and mother -in -law. She often times told me how proud she was of each of you for your successes, your trials and determination to keep going – trudging through your lives. Whether is was Brian struggling in Spanish class in college, or first loves lost she was there or you in prayer .
So very grateful for wonderful memories of visiting the St Louis Mahoney clan and enjoying Irish hospitality from Uncle Gerry and Aunt Pat. I was always in awe of their cooking huge meals with little fanfare and great talent! It was a blessing I got to see Aunt Pat in August and share another meal with all of you.
am sure there was a joyful reunion in heaven with much singing to celebrate her arrival
love you all
