Helen Wallace

 

Helen Yancey Wallace was born May 1, 1924 in Somerset, Pa., the fifth child to Edward and Minnie Yancey. Both parents and siblings, Mary Elizabeth, Clarence Russell, Ruth Ellen, James Robert, Edward Soloman Jr., William Stanley, Paul Laurence, and Gladys Elaine preceded Helen in death.

After completing high school, Helen enrolled in Freedmen’s Hospital School of Nursing in Washington DC which is now Howard University. While at Freedman’s, Helen became a member of the Alpha Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority. When RHO Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority was organized, she became a charter member.

Helen was employed for 47 years in various nursing positions by the St. Louis City Hospitals. Most of Helen’s tenure was at Homer G. Phillips Hospital where she held the positions of Assistant Head Nurse and Head Nurse of the Premature Nursery. Helen retired from active nursing in 1995.

Helen joined in Holy Matrimony to Henry Bliss Wallace on February 10, 1952. Two sons were born of this union, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. In 1967, Helen became a member of Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church where she served faithfully as member of the Chancel Choir, and a friend to many.

Helen transitioned from earth to heaven on April 10, 2020. Her son, Henry Bliss Jr. preceded her in death. She leaves her son to cherish her memory Edward Y. and daughter-in law Somanda E, four grandchildren, Candice Nichole, Christopher Edward, Edward Andrew, Sean Matthew, and great grandchildren, Royce, Reilly, Elijah, Sidney, Sean, nieces Evelyn, Linda, nephews Eddie, Marlin, Christopher, William, Ronald, Jules, Pat and many other loving family members.

    Helen, you were my best friend on the 5th floor ENT, St Louis Reginal Hospital. You will forever look over us nurses here on earth.

    Is this the woman that facilitated a child abduction to adoption for profit ring run on disadvantaged mothers? Looks like it is.
    I almost wish the stories in the Bible were real, so she could burn in hell like she deserves.
