Mary Ann Kane 11/11/46-4/19/20
Mary Ann Kane, born November 11, 1946 to Helen Simon and Judge Francis L. Kane of St. Louis, MO died April 19, 2020 after suffering a stroke.
She graduated from Nerinx Hall in 1966 and retired from a long career at Cass Information Systems. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank C. Kane and numerous beloved cats and dogs.
She was a lifelong and avid Cardinal baseball fan, Muny opera fan, active Nerinx Hall Alum, and animal lover, and in her retirement participated in several bowling leagues.
Her dry wit, intelligence and generous spirit will be missed by her many friends, her 8 nieces and nephews, and 27 great-and great-great nieces and nephews. She is survived by two gentle cats in need of adoption.
A private burial was held at Calvary Cemetery on Friday, May 22 for immediate family.
In lieu of a traditional memorial service, the family suggests that Mary Ann’s many friends and social groups might honor her memory in smaller get-togethers as allowed by local guidelines for COVID-19, and invites you to share a photo or video on the Facebook group “Mary Ann Kane Memorial.”
What a wonderful and fun woman. I always enjoyed seeing “Aunt MImi”. I pray her cats find a wonderful home and someone to love them as much as Aunt Mimi.
What a beautiful tribute video!
I’m praying that the sting of your loss quickly fades into warm memories.
Looking at this clip, I see the Kane influence in your boys, Pat!
Pat, What a beautiful tribute l.
to Mary Ann. I appreciated that you put the Nerinx class of 1966 in. It meant a lot to her. That was our 25th reunion which she helped plan. Miss her already!
Mary Ann and I had one thing in common , we both liked cats. I just talked to her two weeks ago on the phone. She will be missed, especially at family reunions. May she rest in God’s hands.
I will miss her at our monthly Nerinx Hall lunches and at our Lake of the Ozarks trips. More than anything, I will miss our laughs. It was my honor to call her my friend.
Mary Ann would be so touched by this beautiful video! Thank you for sharing these special memories with all of us.
Thank you for sharing Mary Ann’s life so beautifully done in pictures.
What a beautiful video tribute to Mimi. I loved seeing all the pictures of her youth and family. I know she loved you all so much and spoke of you often. I will miss her so much and am so blessed to have known her over the past few years. I’ll miss her stories of baseball, bowling and Nerinx and all of her friends there as well. I learned so much from her and want you all to know she touched so many lives through her cochlear implant experience. The number of students and faculty from Fontbonne that have reached out to me with condolences is overwhelming. She will be greatly missed!
Thank you for the beautiful video of Mary Ann”s life. I knew her from the Advanced Bionics group and found out that she was a fellow Nerinx alum. She encouraged me to go to the annual Alumni breakfast and last year was my class’ (1969) 50th reunion. It was very nice! Mary Ann was a tough cookie and handled all the ups and downs of her hearing journey with perseverance and courage. She will be sorely missed! Please let me and everyone else know when her memorial service will take place. Kathie Dale Hanneke
What a beautiful tribute to Mary Ann. I was blessed to get to know her over the past few years as a delightful Nerinx alumna who made a sweet impression on me. She was a loyal alumna! I’ll miss her.

I remember Mary Ann well. She was always a sweet, caring person, and a bit humorous, during our years at Nerinx.
Rest in Peace Mary Ann.
What a lovely tribute honoring the life Mary Ann led. As one of our classmates wrote in a Class of ’66 email, Mary Ann must have been sent here to be a teacher for us all. She was generous and had a wickedly funny sense of humor. She will be long remembered by many, many people. RIP, Mary Ann. ~Reime
As a Nerinx Alum in the same class as Mary Anne we had no seen each other for most of our adult lives. I recall standing in line next to her on Graduation Day and feeling that sense of “Whats Next” Thats a very lone time ago, although for some reason Mary Ann always stuck in my mind. She was always very kind and sincere. I am so sad to hear that her life has ended so soon! Meet you upstairs one Day, Mary Anne

Thank you for this beautiful video of Mary Ann. She was the epitome of kindness, acceptance and made me laugh every time I saw her. So many people will miss her…the Cardinals, the NH’66 class, all her beloved family and her kitties. am richer for having the honor to know Mary Ann.
So sorry to hear of MaryAnn passing. We worked together at Cass information Systems for almost 25 years. Mary and I had the love of cats and dogs. Anye and AmyJo were because of my need to find home for strays and Chunky we went to the Humane Society to get her a him.
Mary loved her StL Cardinals.
I will miss MaryAnn tremendously.
Please let Cass Information Systems know when Mary’s memorial service will be held.
Update – the cats are now in a loving, permanent home thanks to a generous family friend who adopted them. Lee thanks for the kind comments and for sharing the stories of where the pets came from. Please stay tuned to this page and we will be sure to provided information about memorial plans as soon as something is decided.
I am grateful that I came back to the St. Louis region and had a chance to get to know aunt Mimi and become friends. Her excitement heading to a Cardinals game was contagious. She will be in my thoughts whenever baseball is being played.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of a life well lived. Mary Ann enriched the lives of all who knew her, and I am grateful she was my friend. She was far wiser and kinder than many and I treasure her memory.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute. I recently found a letter which Mary Ann wrote to me on stationery with cardinals. Her warm, generous spirit and her sparkling humor will always be with us as we remember her.
Oh, Mimi, I can’t believe you’re gone. What a shock. I had just called Mimi days before to see how she was doing with the social distancing. We knew each other since we were six. For many years now we made sure we got together for lunch on our birthdays. After lunch we would drive over to our old neighborhood and look at our houses, all the neighborhood familiar spots and reminisce. So many memories of Mimi’s mom, dad and Bud and Jane. Mimi was an inspiration. She did a great job of caring about others, taking care of herself and finding the fun in life. I was hoping there would be a celebration after the pandemic is passed which, of course, could be a long time.
Miss Mary Ann was one of my favorite grocery store customers. I so enjoyed seeing her in my checkout lane, we’d chat briefly and I’d always tell her to take care of herself. She was a delightful lady. So sorry for your loss.
I just found out Mary Ann passed away. The Christmas card I sent her came back could not deliver or forward. I did a google search & found this obit. My brother & I in the old Busch Stadium had full season tickets right across from where she had weekend season tickets. In the new Busch Stadium it was the same for a while. My brother passed away in 2014 but I would still go to some games & run into Mary Ann there sometimes. She was such a nice lady – we enjoyed sitting near her & talking to her.
I love and miss you. You were wonderful. You always will
I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve known Mary Ann sice 1995, when we worked on the first St. Rose Grade School Reunion. I was trying to locate her for the upcomig reunion when I found the obituary. I’ll let the other Rosebuds know that she’s gone. She will be missed.
Mary Ann, rest. Your kindness and goodness have earned you your eternal reward.
