Ossie Mae Lumzy better known as Cookie was born on May 17,1946 to Joe Ruby and Hattie Jones. She was the third of eight children of this union.

Cookie was born in Pineburr,MS. With such a large family they grew their own fruit and vegetables in their family garden and they raised cows, pigs, chickens, and more on their family farm. Later the family moved to Columbia, MS where recieved her education at Marion Central HS/Grover Academy.

Cookie professed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Mark’s Baptist Church in Columbia, MS; where she became a member.

During her teenage years, Cookie assisted on her family’s farm. Being a family of 10 Cookie’s mom prepared meals for her children whenever they traveled or visited family/friends (even locally). It was a little known secret that she often traveled with her own set of pots and pans.

During the weekdays, Cookie made sure dinner was cooked before her parents arrived home from work.

Sunday dinners was always something she looked forward to. It was these moments, from the influence of her mother, that always held her family close to heart.

In 1967, Cookie married David Lumzy and later had five children. She was a great wife and mom; that kept Cookie cooking for her community and family. Cookie moved to Richmond Heights, Missouri for a period of time, and later moved to her beloved Chicago where she would remain for 42 years.

In Chicago, she worked as the manager & head beautician for over 10 years at Syletown. She attended Marble Rock M.B Church and was an active member coordinating events, like bake sales, singing in the choir, and providing meals for members & people in need.

She often enjoyed the company of her niece Barbara Jones when visiting St. Louis as well as her long time friends Christine Dito and Glenda Wright of Chicago. They enjoyed listening to the sweet tunes of Tyrone Davis and Johnnie Taylor when spending time with them.

Cookie was a peoples person, a socialite, and a frequent traveler who never spent a moment alone. Often visiting & fellowshiping with loved ones! Her giving spirit contributed to raising several of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as God-children.

She had such a big personality and was known to be the life of ANY gathering, with an entertaining style that ONLY she could provide.

She is proceeded in death by her husband (David Lumzy), daughter (Melissa Ann Jones), parents (Joe and Hattie Jones), brother (Charles Jones) sister-in-law (Elaine Jones) and great grand son Jaquese Brown.

She is survived by one daughter Jacqueline Jones of Detroit, MI; three sons, Joe Lumzy of Atlanta, GA, Kenneth Lumzy (Venus) of Chicago,IL and Jeffery (Crystal) Lumzy of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Ruthie Mae (Bill) Wooten of St. Louis, MO, Ruby Lee Jones of St. Louis, MO, and Earnestine (Gerald) Liddell of St. Louis, MO; three brothers, Johnnie Will Jones of St. Louis, MO, Robert Earl (Ruth) of St. Louis, MO and Larry (Dianne) Jones of Wentzville, MO; sister-in-law Lanny Jones of Florida;
