Barbara Shewchuk

Barbara Jean (Waldo) Shewchuk went home to be with Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. She passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Michelle Fenstermacher in Ballwin, MO, after a short battle with cancer. Barbara was born on December 23, 1954, in Norristown, PA, to Charles Russell and Norma Jean (Pichon) Waldo. She is predeceased by her brother Charles Russell Waldo II and her father.

Barbara graduated from Upper Merion High School in 1972 and worked for Verizon until her retirement in the late 1990s. Barb is survived by her mother, a brother Robert B. Waldo (Kristine) of Newark, DE, and her daughter Michelle (William), as well as her dear friend and roommate, Kay Diebel. She leaves a legacy of a granddaughter Annika Fenstermacher of Ballwin, MO, and has several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember her fondly.

Barbara was an avid science fiction fan and attended dozens of science fiction conventions. She was a fan of Star Trek, Dr. Who, and Blake’s 7. Barb loved music; bands such as The Kinks, David Bowie, and Chris DeBurgh were among her favorites. She went to many rock concerts throughout the years. Barb loved having cats as companions and over her lifetime had many cats and a dog named Julian, all of whom gave her great joy.

Funeral services will be private, and a memorial service will be held in her honor in King of Prussia, PA, in the future after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on her behalf to Kitty Cottage, a no-kill cat shelter (https://www.kittycottage.org/).
