Helga Honig

Helga Honig, 85 years old, died peacefully on June 22, 2020 at the Barnes Jewish
Extended Care facility after a long illness.

She was born to Heinrich and Maria (Hoffman) Müller in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in
1934. She and Walter Honig were married there during his US Army service. He
preceded her in death, but she is survived by her two devoted sons Ron and Greg, their
wives Sheila and Kimberly, and granddaughter Dr. Rachel Honig Krakosky.

Helga was a talented knitting instructor, having learned that skill as a child in bomb
shelters during World War II. She enjoyed swimming for exercise and taking care of her
home. Helga was a great cook and took pride in baking wonderful Christmas cookies
each year for family and friends. She was proud of her German heritage and followed
the news there throughout her life. Her family thanks the staff at Barnes Jewish
Extended Care for their excellent support during this time.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we didn’t feel a memorial service here in St Louis was wise,
Instead we had an On-Line memorial to celebrate Helga’s life. Our thanks to those who could join.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Annie Malone Children & Family Services

I always enjoyed sitting beside my mom, your SIL, as you two visited. I especially enjoyed hearing your accent. It was fun swimming in your pool and at family reunions. You were a great aunt. I will really miss you.
