Mary Virginia Bass

Ginny Bass (nee; Brennan) passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the age of 73.

Ginny was the daughter of the late Jim and Kate Brennan; devoted mother to Kevin Bass and Julie Fleck (Paul); beloved “MeeMaw” to Daniel and Ryan Bass and Keegan and Grace Fleck. She will be dearly missed by her siblings; the late Jim Brennan, Jr. (Marilyn), Sr. Sheila Brennan, O.P., Nancy Gillon (Bob), Patrick Brennan (Barbara), and Mary Meihaus (Bob). Ginny was a beloved Aunt, Great Aunt, cousin, friend and sponsor.

Ginny spent her entire life in St. Louis, MO. She attended Mercy Highschool, Fontbonne College and completed her post-graduate work at St. Louis University. She was a brilliant student and dedicated her career as an award-winning educator for St. Louis County Special School District. Everyone will remember Ginny’s unique and boisterous laugh, which she pronounced often. She had a kind heart and a welcoming spirit. Ginny did not know a stranger and one could always count on her to tell you exactly what she was thinking. She was a spiritual person who looked to AA as her “church”, where she proudly accomplished 40 years of sobriety. She loved to gather with people she loved, spoiling her pets, and celebrating holidays. Her children and grandchildren rocked her world. Her heart and candy dishes were perpetually full.

A private Graveside internment will be attended by immediate family on July 10 at Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be planned at a future date, when large crowds may safely gather, for extended family and friends.

Memorial donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association or Autism Speaks.

I feel so horrible that I didn’t know about Ginny’s passing! I have had her on my mind for some reason and just found out today that she is in heaven. She was such an amazing friend—I wish was a better friend to her! Kevin and Julie, please forgive me for not staying closer and then would have known when she passed. You were blessed with a one in a million mom!
