Bennie “Ben” Leon Gregory
Bennie “Ben” Leon Gregory passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 18, 2020 at the age of 83. A longtime resident of Calverton Park, MO he is survived by Judy Gregory (nee Brannan), his wife of 57 years. Other survivors include his children Margaret (John) Jurgovan, Bennie Gregory, Michael Gregory, and Timmie Gregory; grandchildren Richard Jurgovan, Emily Jurgovan, Shawn Gregory, Taylor (Cole) Medlin, Tawni Tumminello, Lexi Mast, and Sammi Gregory. Bennie was one of five children born to the late Raney & Mary Gregory (nee Luck) of Steelville, MO.
Bennie served our country as a radio teletype operator in the United States Army. He was a machinist by trade and known as Mr. Fix-It to family and friends. He was an athlete and coach for many years, which allowed him to spend time with his children and grandchildren both on and off the field. In his later years he teamed up with his best friend and brother-in-law Jerry Donaldson to become drivers for his extended family at The Little Sisters of the Poor. Whether he was helping with a car or appliance repair, passing out popsicles to neighborhood children, bringing donuts to doctors and nurses, delivering White Castle cheeseburgers to his friends in Jefferson City, or secretly handing out statues of St. Joseph and Mass cards from The Pink Sisters, Bennie was a humble giver sharing his God-given gifts. He gave of himself freely and never wanted anything in return, but most of all Bennie loved and adored his wife and family.
Donations may be made in his name to The Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Mary’s Home, 2325 N. Lakewood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-3112
