Donna Jean Stevens

Donna Jean Stevens died peacefully at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on August 10th, 2020 at the age of 68.

Donna is survived by her son, Daniel Moses Jr., of Fenton, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her father, Eugene Stevens, mother, Lorene Stevens (Middleton), and infant sister, Joyce, of Elvins, Missouri.

Donna was born on August 30, 1951 near Bismarck, Missouri. She graduated valedictorian from Leadwood (MO) High School in 1968. After raising her son, Daniel, she went on to earn her degree in Early Childhood Psychology from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 1982. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa.

Donna devoted her professional life to helping others. After graduating college, she worked as a librarian at Kirkwood (MO) Public Library. She later worked for the State of Missouri Disability Determination Services and Vocational Rehabilitation / Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, as well as the U.S. Social Security Administration. However, Donna was most proud of her work as an educator. She taught at Valley Park (MO) Elementary School and served as an Adventure Club facilitator at several locations within the Rockwood (MO) School District, including Chesterfield and Bowles Elementary Schools, for 16 years.

Per Donna’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. Instead, there will be a casual dinner in her honor on what would have been her 69th birthday, Sunday, August 30th, 2020 between 3:00pm and 4:00pm at Jilly’s Cafe and Steakhouse, located at 1630 Gravois Rd. in High Ridge, Missouri (63049). Additionally, there will be a brief graveside ceremony for the interment of her ashes at 11:00am on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 at Sunlight Cemetery near Belgrade, Missouri (63622), followed by a potluck reception between 12:30pm and 2:00pm at the St. Joe State Park Pim Shelter #1, located in Park Hills, Missouri (63601).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
