Douglas Roth

Doug Roth, 69, peacefully passed away this week, surrounded by his family. In spite of his battle with Parkinson’s for the last six and a half years and then dementia for the last two years, he faced the challenges with strength, courage, and dignity.

His Celebration of Life mass will be held at Incarnate Word Parish (Chesterfield, MO) at 10am on Monday, October 5th. Masks are required to be worn the entire time. Please adhere to social distancing.

Doug is survived by dedicated wife, Maureen Roth, daughters Emily Roth & Kelly Strange, sons-in-law Luis Bolaños & Erik Strange; grandchildren Hannah, Eva, and Mia Bolaños-Roth and Emmett Strange; and Sister Debbi Agles and family.

Following God’s greatest commandment to love others as yourself, Doug literally gave the coat off of his back to another person who had a greater need for it. He inspired a love of community service in his children and grandchildren as he served coffee each month at the local homeless shelter and volunteered for 12 years (2,245 hours!) at the hospital. He will forever be remembered with a smile on his face, a funny story to tell (usually over and over again), and his gentle, kind nature.

He spent over 30 years working in the airline industry, and he loved to travel (especially anywhere warm where he could scuba dive or get a suntan). Even just last year, he was able to recall just about any 3-letter airport city code!

If he wasn’t spending time loving his family, he was with his other “family”, Andy Griffith and Co. His beloved St Louis Cardinals, Blues and Mizzou Tigers entertained him many of his days. Cruising around in the convertible, playing cards, and eating Andy’s ice cream made him happy until his final days.

He shared 2 important life lessons with his family:

1) Don’t sweat the small stuff.

2) Everything is small stuff.

In lieu of flowers, please consider doing an act of kindness in Doug’s name or donating to your local food pantry or homeless shelter to make our world a kinder place, just like Doug did.
