John Ross
John Herman Ross died on January 28, 2008, at the age of 81. He was a kind and generous soul and will be missed by all who knew him. After graduating from Soldan High School he joined the St. Louis Public Library, retiring after 50 years of service. During retirement he volunteered both at the St. Louis Public Library and the St. Louis United Fund. His interests included a love of astronomy, photography, and classical music.
He was predeceased by his parents Sidney and Gertrude (Wallerstein) Ross. He is survived by his loving sister Eva Ball and brother-in-law William Ball. He was the dear Uncle of Susan Blue and Steven Ball and his wife Yvonne Ball.
John will be remebered by many of his friends and co-workers at St. Louis Public Library. It was my previledge to know John since coming to the library in 1966. He’s often been remebered by staff since his retirement, and we’ll all feel his loss.
I only met John after he had retired but while he was volunteering at the library. I have to admire anyone who spent 50 years of his life doing the same kind of work. That must have taken unusual dedication and stamina. I admired him for that alone.
