Giovanni Tomasella
Giovanni passed away at home December 6, 2020, after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Teresa Tomasella, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.
Giovanni was born in Motta di Livenza, Italy in 1941 to a family having three brothers and a sister. Proudly serving as a paratrooper in the Italian Army.
He came to the United States in 1969. Working for thirty years as a union painter, retiring from Painters Local 137. Giovanni was a founding member of the Italia-America Bocce Club. He enjoyed playing on bocce teams for many years. He loved soccer, that he had played as a child and adult.
Giovanni spent a lot of time at his home in Kampsville, Illinois, spending time on the river and visiting with many friends.
For the past twenty-seven years he vacationed with family in Panama. During the last 10 years, he spent winters in Panama returning home in the spring.
Giovanni was a gentle loving man and loved by many. He will always be loved and missed.
We Miss and Love you Pop!
What a caring, very funny, loving, spiritual guy. A friend to all he met. Wonderful family guy. You will b dearly missed by all.
May Gods hold you in the palm of his hands.
“Pete” as I knew him, was a good friend of my brother (Louis Udina). They would go out dancing and to the Bocce Club. I was much younger (18 years younger) but every time I would see Pete he was always joking around and laughing. Ironically, a month or so ago when Pete was in Mercy South, my son was assigned to his room. Pete noticed the last name and asked if he was related to my brother. My son said yes he was and for the next day or so, Pete would tell him a story here and there as my son came in to check on him. After my brother passed away suddenly in 1985, my family and I slowly lost touch with Pete but I will never forget his humor and kind ways. My condolences to the entire Tomasella family. He will be deeply missed.
