John H. Doerr

John H. Doerr (Jack) passed away on Nov. 27, 2020 after nine months in quarantine and a brief illness of Covid-19. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann, his daughter Leigh Ann Johnson (Dave), his grandchildren Brennan (Kari), Allyson Kassebaum (Travis), Jonathan (Hannah) and Owen Benkert, Mitchell and Lauren Johnson, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Beth Benkert (Charlie), his sister Sally Freudenthal, and his parents Dorothy and Harvey Doerr.

After a brief service in the US Army as a cook, Jack returned to Webster Groves, where he met Ann through a VW Club rally. They married and settled in Kirkwood where they lived while their girls were in school. Jack was self-employed by Doerr Contracting and Leritz Contracting, from which he retired. He was a resident of Friendship Village Sunset Hills for the last few years of his life.

A virtual zoom service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020 at 11 am. Contact the family or St. Francis’ Episcopal Church in Eureka for the Zoom link if you would like to attend.

    Ann: so sorry to learn about Jack. Hope you are ok…this has really been a terrible year. I don’t know if you remember me, but I was a close friend of Sally and spent many, many fun times at the family home on S.Elm in Webster. Judy Cromwell and I attended Sally’s service at Oak Hill together.
