Zawieja, Evelyn Buczynska, born November 20, 1917, passed away on February 20, 2008. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Janusz C. Zawieja. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Victoria Z. (Thomas) Cremer, and Constance Z. (Douglas R. Williams) Wagner, and her adoring grandchildren T.J. and Christopher A. Cremer, and Victoria H. Williams and Erin M. Williams, and by her very special nieces Mary T.(Thomas) Zgonena, Cynthia Emerick, and Gail Damron. She was preceded in death by her esteemed parents, Frank Buczynski and Victoria Ryza Buczynska, and by her siblings, Stella (Walery) Fronczak, Elsie Buczynska, Marian (Ted) Zak, Edward Buczynski, John (Lillian) Buczynski,Casey (Thelma) Bush, and Raymond (Marlynn) Buczynski, and by her nephews Robert (Lori) Fronczak and John Bush. Evelyn graduated from the University of Illinois and received training as a medical technologist at the University of Wisconsin. She was a registered medical technologist and worked for the Chicago Board of Health, Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. During World War II, she served her country as a WAVE officer in the United States Navy. She was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, and retired with the rank of First Lieutenant. She was a parishioner of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois, where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Her interests included gardening, bridge, travel, theater, and opera.
