Wanda Jean Hilligardt

Hilligardt, Wanda Jean (nee Lanum), 92, peacefully entered into rest on December 4, 2016 surrounded by family. Wanda was born December 3, 1924 in Quincy Illinois but spent her childhood in Hannibal Missouri. She later moved to St. Louis where she met and married the love of her life, the late Frederick Charles Hilligardt. Together, they shared 61 happy years of marriage and raised three children that had the greatest childhood; Frederick P. (Anne) Hilligardt; Richard (Julie) Hilligardt and Lynn (Ron) Snowden. A fourth child, Michael Charles lived only 18 days. We know you are holding him now sweet mother. Frederick and Wanda both retired from McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in 1982 and lived the dream the remainder of their lives in Warren County Missouri on their beloved hill. Wanda was blessed with 7 grandchildren that she loved dearly; Adam Hilligardt; Ryan Snowden; Justin (Michelle)Snowden; Lindsay (Dan) Hoff; Stephanie Hilligardt; Lauren Snowden(fiance Mike); Kelly Hilligardt; and 7 treasured great-grandchildren; Chloe; Shaye; Nevaeh; Logan; Cooper; Owen and Ethan. She was the dear daughter of the late Fred and Violet Lanum; dear sister and friend of the late Donna Winn; aunt; great-aunt; cousin; and friend to many.

Wanda had many hobbies throughout her life that included collecting fossils, rocks, coins, seashells, arrowheads or anything “interesting”, as she would say. She will be remembered for her impressive artistic talent and sense of humor that never left her. Being with her family and friends is what she enjoyed the most. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services: There will be a short memorial service, Friday, December 16, 2016 at 12:45 pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St Louis MO 63125. Family and friends can meet at the Administration Building in the rear parking lot at 12:30. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, therapists, and aides at Mercy Hospital in Washington Missouri and Creve Coeur Missouri for the care they provided to Wanda and her family.

It’s always interesting to see photographs and read stories about the parents of friends and acquaintances. Thanks for sharing a very sweet nutshell-version of, what I’m sure was, a very full, fine and interesting life. I have known Lynn most of my life, and since she probably got a fair share of her goodness, warmth and fun-loving spirit from her mom, I can confidently express my sincere condolences to all concerned for a blessed soul I know you’ll all mourn and miss. Peace be with you all.
