Charles Hempstead Gratiot, 72, passed away in his sleep Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO following surgery.

Born in Kingman, AZ and raised in Monterey, CA. The son of Charles and Frances (Parker) Gratiot. Proud graduate of Brigham Young University.

Cherished father of David Charles, Peter Allen, Phillip Michael, and Dennis Shane; loving brother to William, James, and Mary Anne Balzer; devoted grandfather to Jacob and Allison; and a true friend to many.

He will be deeply missed; especially by his two grandchildren, who adored him. He always had a smile and cheerful attitude, even when struggling with health related issues. His thirst for learning never faded and was always excited to talk about the astronomy.

He was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church building located at 2245 S Old Hwy 94, St. Charles, MO 63303.
