Webster Groves, MO— James Irwin Webb, CAPT, United States Navy (Retired), died on February 2^nd, 2019 at the age of 88.

CAPT Webb is survived by his wife, Eleanor and two children: Emily Rogier and John Webb. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Elizabeth Steward, Madeline Rogier, Dara Webb, and Aidan Webb.

James was the epitome of knowledge in science and technology. He distinguished himself early on earning the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. His academic achievements range from an undergraduate engineering degree from Northwestern University in 1953 to doctoral studies in Metallurgy at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. He also achieved two master’s degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, respectively.

CAPT Webb’s military career began in the Naval ROTC at Northwestern University where he graduated with a degree in engineering. He served for 27 years with tours of duty that included Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, Chief Engineer of two aircraft carriers, Shipyard Production Officer at Subic Bay, Philippines, chief of production at Bremerton Naval Shipyard and several tours at Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters, Washington, DC. CAPT Webb retired in 1978 with notable awards. Among these awards was the Legion of Merit.

CAPT Webb went on to continue his career working in the private sector for BethShip as the general manager for the Saudi Royal Shipyards and Willamette Iron & Steel in Portland, Oregon.

CAPT Webb will be remembered for his love of all things nautical, reading, fly fishing, and woodworking.
