Sandra Johnson

Sandra Johnson was born April 9, 1946 in St. Louis Missouri. She was educated in the St. Louis Public School system and a proud graduate of Vashon High School.

Sandra was joined in holy matrimony to Lloyd Johnson Sr. in 1965. To this union two children were born, Lloyd Johnson Jr. and Kamella (Shawn) Johnson.

Sandra accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Murchison Tabernacle CME Church where she actively served the lord for many years. She later joined Bethel Providence Christian Church.

In 1997 Sandra was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was an 18 year survivor who turned this diagnosis into a crusade for breast cancer awareness. Sandra felt that battling the disease and surviving changed her perspective. “I’m more giving and caring. I want to help as many people as I can.” Sandra started as a breast cancer volunteer at Missouri Baptist Hospital. She then became a Reach to Recovery volunteer as well as start her own cancer support group which she later called Survivors helping Survivors. She passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015 after her long and courageous battle.

Sandra was a very special spirit who was very loving and giving. She took on the role of mother, grandmother, and godmother for many special people.

Sandra leaves to cherish, love, and treasure her memory her husband Lloyd Johnson Sr.; children, Lloyd Johnson Jr., Kamella (Shawn) Johnson; grandchildren, Brienne Johnson, Lloyd Johnson III, Kellen Johnson, Kamille Johnson; great grandchildren, Trevionne, Amar, Zion’e, and Ashlynn; mother, Alma (Douglas) McJames; sister, Janice Demar; and many nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

I thank God for having known Sandra’s love. It was such a blessing to witness her thrive as she survived and then to see her passion to help others. She shared her story giving God the glory!
It is my prayer that her family will cry a tear of joy even in the pain of adjusting to God’s perfect and gracious will.

The Heavens have acquired a beautiful Angel! Sandra always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was the epitome of HOPE to breast cancer survivors. The staff at the American Cancer Society want to express our deepest sympathy to Lloyd, her children and grand children. God Bless You All during this most difficult time.

I knew her at a time when she seemed to be a super hero. She was strong, wise and all being. I am who I am today with her in my life. I regret not staying close to my family and I cherish every thought of her. I love you San
