Bettie Nunn

Bettie Jane Nunn, was born the second of seven children on February 21, 1938 to the late James E. and Mary Francis Carslick in St. Louis, MO.  She was married to Gale A. Nunn, her best friend and love of her life on January 5, 1962.  Bettie, known as “Ms. Nunn” to all who knew her well, departed her Earthly life on July 9, 2010. For over 46 years, she dedicated her life to caring for children at Ms. Nunn’s Daycare.  Most will remember her blunt, yet tactful personality that shined in a way that that often had us laughing as her sincere intentions and wittiness kept us loving her.  In her spare time, Bettie also enjoyed sewing, shopping, storytelling and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Leon Carslick, husband to (Lucille Carslick) and brother-in-law Steven Roberts (Cynthia.) Bettie also leaves to cherish her memories; husband Gale A. Nunn; her children, Gary Alan, (Chanti), Gayla Nunn-Hinton; grandchildren, Jordan and J. Grant Hinton; Alayna and Alyssa Nunn; siblings, Shirley Bowie (Herman), Mary Sue Carslick, James Carslick, (Sandra), Carol Lacy, Donald Carslick (Victoria); sister-in-law Cheryl Winston; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, best friend Nancy Brandy and many friends.

Bettie will certainly be missed by all and her memory will forever live on in the community and in the lives of the countless number of children and families who have been touched by her loving arms and heartfelt dedication.  And we will never forget those she affectionately referred to as “Ms. Nunn’s babies.”

The Nunn family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, condolences and words of comfort during this time with a special thank you to SSM Hospice and their team of dedicated professionals.  The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, 1 Selma Ave., Webster Groves, MO  63119.  Refreshments will be served immediately following in the lower level.

My sincere condolences to the Nunn family. I firmly believe that the last time I visited was indeed not an accident. I was on my way from another state, and had a strong urge to visit St. Louis on my way home. I just had to come! Thanks Uncle Gail for giving me a ride back to the airport for little did I know it would be the very last time I would see Aunt Bettie. So, when the Lord lays something or someone on your heart just do it and/or give them a call respectively. The earliest memory of Bettie is when I spent about a week at your home, and she made us read every morning. As a child I thought” boy” I have to do this school stuff while on vacation ( I actually grew to like it); also she made these graham cracker treats after we finished reading that were awesome. May you find comfort and peace knowing that one day you shall meet her in glory.
