Daniel Richard Howard, 59, died due to complications of MS, on January 26, at St. John’s Skilled Nursing in St. Louis, MO.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Marie Butz Howard.

Beloved companion of Joyce Thompson and friend to her children: Christina and Emmett Rodriguez & Anita and Tim Russell.  Loving brother and brother-in-law of:  Paul & Gale Howard; Phil Howard; Jean & Richard Riezman.

Dan was born in St. Louis on Oct. 20, 1951. He enjoyed working as a surveyor as he loved the outdoors. As Dan’s MS progressed he turned to his love of music and became an accomplished musician who played piano, guitar, harmonica & other instruments, all by ear. He was an avid astronomer.  As you look into the night sky, you will find the “Daniel R” star, formerly known as Sagitta RA 19h 39m 2s D 18* 15*. Throughout his lengthy illness, Dan kept a positive attitude; an awesome legacy and gift to his family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brentwood, 9321 Litzsinger Rd., 63144.  Contributions may be sent to Mt. Calvary or the MS Society. There will be a visitation starting at 12:30 and a reception will follow the service at the Fellowship Hall.

Dan is set free. No longer must he fight the “war” within his body. He has laid down his sword and shield and put on that long white gown and crown of jewels. He has crossed the river Jordan and is in God’s Hands.

Thank you all. I was hoping there would be pictures. This is beautiful and moving, and leaves me wanting to know more about Dan and how he lived and loved in his long life. I look forward to that.

If you would behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life. For life and death are one, even as the river and sea are one.

I am only a very distant cousin separated by many years and many marriages but the death of one is a death for us all. My condolences to all of you and may God bless you in your time of sorrow.
