Frederick Rogers

Frederick D. Rogers, Jr. died February 19, 2010.  He was born January 31, 1947 to the late Fred, Sr. and Sadie Polk Rogers.  Fred was baptized in the St. Alphonsus Rock Catholic Church at an early age.  Fred attended St. Alphonsus Rock Elementary School and he graduated from DeAndreis High School.  Fred matriculated at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Special emphasis on Organizational behavior and Accounting, June 1974.

His lifetime careers include employment as Project Director in charge of branch operations at the St. Louis Public Library; Industrial Relations Manager for G.K. Technologies, General Cable Company Division, St. Louis, Missouri; Director of Personnel and Labor Relations for John Morrell and Company, United Brands Subsidiary, Hunter Packing Company Division, Chicago, Illinois; and Personnel Administrator/Labor Relations for Schlumberger Limited, Vector Cable Company, Division, Sugar Land, Texas.

When the health of Fred’s parents began to fail, he and his brother, Martin, used every opportunity to make sure they received the necessary medical aid and basic needs required for living comfortably and happily.  Fred was a happy and kind individual, which endeared him to many caring friends.  His devotion to his parents and his charitable concern for others is immeasurable.  When his journey here on earth terminated, his request was that many of his useful personal belongings be donated to organizations concerned with helping people.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and youngest brother, Joseph, and he leaves behind a caring and devoted brother, Martin, brother-like lifelong friends, Damon Clay and Harrison Jones, Taylor Poole and countless others fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Fred, and a host of loving, caring, and devoted cousins.  He touched the lives of many during his 63 years.

I have not met Fred, but I know about him through Martin. Martin and I worked in the lab together for many years. May God give the departed soul, peace in heaven. I hope Martin finds the strength to endure these difficult times.

Joyce and I have known, loved and respected Martin for many years. He has been a good friend, excellent instructor to us and a loving care taker of his family and brother. If goodness runs in a family then Fred must have also been a great, kind and good man. We are deeply sorry for Martin’s loss.

Fred has been my closest friend for over the past +40 yrs. He cared for me as a “Big Brother” and we shared our lifes as an open book. He guided me thru SIUE, where we both graduated with Business Degrees. Fred looked after my my mother (shut-in) and sisters while I remained in California. He was the smartest person both book smart, as well as street smart. He will live in my heart forever, as a FFL – Friend For Life, until we meet again.

I met Fred about 15 years ago through our mutual friend Damon. He was always kind, respectful and made me laugh. His untimely passing is a reminder of how we must CHERISH our loved ones, for we know not the day or hour that our FATHER will demand our presence above. RIP Fred, you will be missed.
