Gilbert Carrizales

Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend
Gilbert Carrizales, age 80, of Granite City Illinois passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital Surrey Place Nursing Home in Chesterfield, Missouri. Born in the Lincoln Place neighborhood of Granite City, Illinois on March 20th, 1929, Gilbert was deeply proud of the rich heritage of the community and its residents. At age 15 Gilbert went to work for the railroad, later working in the area’s steel industry, before starting his longtime business in real estate. He remained active in that business until his death.

Gilbert was preceded in death by parents Doroteo and Frances, nee Carmona, Carrizales; son Anthony “Tony”; and sisters Cathlina Aleman; Carmen Breckner.
He is survived by son Gilbert “Butch” Carrizales Jr. and wife Karen of Eureka, Mo; daughter Mary Michelle Maitz and husband Anthony of St. Louis, Mo; brother, Anthony Carrizales of Mitchell, Ill; sister, Jenny Cook and husband Jim of Collinsville, Ill; four grandchildren, Douglas Sloss and wife Kim; Ryan Sloss; Anthony and Valerie Carrizales; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Many thanks to all the wonderful friends and family who were there for Gilbert throughout the illness of his final years. Gilbert chose to donate his remains to the National Body Donor Program to assist with medical research, and with the hope of helping others.
