Guy Page

Guy Lamarr Page was born August 4, 1957 in St. Louis, MO, the fourth of six children to loving parents, Luther Page, Jr. and LaVerne Marie Page.

He professed a love for Jesus Christ, being baptized and becoming a member of Christ Southern Mission M.B. Church at an early age.

Guy was known as an extremely bright and precocious child always beyond his years, with a thirst for learning. At an early age he was known to have in-depth conversations with “the grown folks”. Guy taught himself to drive, to play the guitar (lead and bass) and how to build, program, and operate computers. In 1970, he joined with friends, Jesse, Norman, Tony and other to form a band, JEST US. They performed locally for several years.

Guy graduated from Pierre Laclede Elementary School and attended Sumner High School prior to soliciting his parents’ consent to join, and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Japan and received medals for good conduct and rifle sharp shooter. He served until his honorable discharge as Lance Corporal on April 19, 1977.

Throughout his life, he held various occupations including positions with United States Steel and Arpercen Military Personell Center. In later years, he enjoyed over-the-road trucking often remarking about God’s majestic beauty in his travels.

He was married on August 11, 1979 to Jeanette Council. To this 17 year union were born Shana Vernetta and Lamarr Dejuan (the first baby of New Year 1980). Guy was also a father to sons, Douglass Antoine and Diondre Terrill. He also later fathered a daughter, Asha Jamokee with Sandra Garrison.

Guy remarried on Valentine’s Day 1999 to Laura Ann Harris. During this 8-year union a son, Darryl Lamarr was born. Guy also assisted in rearing Terry, Christina, and Alexis.

He enjoyed playing his guitar, writing, spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching movies, listening to music (Gospel choirs, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, and many other guitar players), and talking with people about anything!

On his 50th birthday, he was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer, presenting him with the biggest challenge of his lifetime–how to spend his last days on Earth. He chose to embark upon this remarkable journey in the spirit of self-discovery and relationship building, yielding him a closer walk with God and with his family.

Guy faced his illness courageously and the medical community often remarked on his pleasant and positive personality and his ability to withstand high levels of pain without the recommended level of meds. Guy triumphed over many physical and medical challenges that he met on the way as his illness progressed. Guy was fortunate to attend a writer’s workshop last year in the midst of accepting his illness and found another gift in writing.

He departed this life Sunday morning July 26. He was just shy of his 52nd birthday.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Luther and LaVerne Page and his 7-day old son, Lamarr DeJuan Page.

Guy leaves to mourn his eldest brother, Dr. Enoch Page; his senior sisters, Randy and Terry Page; his junior sister and brother, Karen and Tee Page; 1 niece and 2 nephews; 4 sons; 4 daughters; and 10 grandchildren along with his first cousins, the Harris’ of Chicago (who are also grieving the recent loss of their beloved brother); and a host of relatives and friends.

Guy was known and loved everywhere he went. He knew no strangers!

Guy loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. We will remember him fondly by the tune that he used as a ring tone on his cell phone, “I Love It When You Call Me Big Papa”!

I am overjoyed that I was able to spend the last two years of Guy’s life with him. He revealed himself to me to be a very loving, protective, gentle, kind, considerate, family loving man. Well loved and liked by all. We both started out on this journey through unknown territory hoping and praying all the way that this journey would be a pleasant one and one filled with lessons….and it was just that!

Guy is an inspiration to all who met him at the Karen Casey Writing Workshop. Our love and sympathy is being sent to family at this time of transition. We are pleased to have some of his inspirational writing in our FRESH Wisdom Book as a lasting memory of our friend.
