John Martin Strecker of Kirkwood, Missouri died on April 22, 2010 after a long battle with cancer.  John was born in Marietta, Ohio, on April 2, 1929, son of Margaret and Raymond M. Strecker.  John is survived by his daughter, the Rev. Carol E. Strecker (Cumberland, Maine),  his son William A. Strecker (Webster Groves, Missouri) and his sister Carolyn A. Sharp (Indianapolis, Indiana).  John maintained a close and caring relationship with his former wife, Elaine M. Strecker (Webster Groves, Missouri). Bill and Elaine were John’s primary caregivers for several years before his death.   

John brought his young family to St. Louis in 1961 to work as a library administrator at Washington University.  He worked there until he retired in 1983.  Always a patron of the arts, John supported the St. Louis Symphony, the St. Louis Art Museum and the St. Louis Historical Society. 

There will be a celebration of John’s life at Grace United Methodist Church in St. Louis on Saturday, May 1^st at 10:30am.
